A skills audit for livestock officers in the country was conducted this week at the Gabadi Demonstration Farm in Central, The National reports.
A team from the Australian Agricultural College Corporation (AACC) was engaged by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) to facilitate the audit as part of its PNG sustainable agriculture alliance project and funded by AusAID.
Project coordinator Regina Nukundj said the project aimed at improving the service delivery capacities of agriculture officers.
“The project came under a memorandum of understanding in 2008, which has now expired but is expected to be renewed for another five years,” she said.
Nukundj said the project was being implemented this year, starting in Central.
The skills audit and recognition of prior learning process training for livestock officers was held by DAL, in collaboration with Livestock Development Corporation and Agriculture division of the Central provincial administration.
It is a joint project with the Queensland government, through its department of employment and economic development and innovations.
Practical demonstrations part of the audit, using the new cattle ranch at the farm.
