Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs Richard Marles will visit Papua New Guinea this week from 5 to 7 November.

"This will be my first trip to Papua New Guinea since the elections and I look forward to discussions with a number of new Ministers," Mr Marles said.

Mr Marles said the visit highlighted Australia's commitment to working with PNG's Government to build a prosperous, stable and secure Papua New Guinea, and to further strengthen political, economic, development, people-to-people and cultural links.

"Australia is a major partner for PNG and we are actively engaged in working with the PNG Government to advance our shared priorities.

"I also look forward to being involved in the 70th Anniversary commemorations of the WWII Kokoda Campaign and am honoured to be meeting a group of Kokoda and Beachhead Battles veterans and survivors and families of Z Special Unit."

Mr Marles will meet senior members of the Papua New Guinean Government including Foreign Minister Pato, Health Minister Malabag and Environment Minister Pundari.

Mr Marles will also meet government representatives to discuss the management of the Kokoda Track and attend a rededication of Z Special Unit graves at Bomana War Cemetery.
